About Hand Embodied
An independent editorial site that explains robot hands, the sense of touch and bionic prosthetic hands in plain language. Here is how it is made and what it is not.
What we publish
Four explainers and an overview, in English and German: soft and underactuated robotic hands, hand synergies, haptic perception and touch feedback and bionic and myoelectric prosthetic hands. The aim is to make research topics understandable for curious readers, students and people who are considering a prosthesis, without hype and without jargon that is not explained.
This domain and its past
From around 2010 this address was used by a European research project on robot hands that has since ended; afterwards the domain lapsed and was used by unrelated third parties. Hand Embodied has no connection to that project, its consortium, its partner institutions, its researchers or the bodies that funded it, and it does not continue its work. We do not publish its documents, pictures or results as our own, and we do not speak for any of the people involved.
How we work
- Sources first. Peer-reviewed research, textbooks, clinical guidance and the public documentation of manufacturers and research groups. Where a statement describes common practice or an open question rather than settled knowledge, we say so.
- No medical advice. The page on prosthetic hands explains options and questions. Decisions about treatment and devices belong with doctors, prosthetists and therapists who know the individual case.
- No invented people. The site is written by an editorial team. We do not attach personal bylines or invented credentials to the pages.
- Dated facts. Technology moves quickly. Pages carry their publication or update date, and substantiated errors get fixed.
How the site is funded
Hand Embodied is a commercial publication and is planned to be funded by advertising. No manufacturer, clinic, lab or provider pays for a mention, a position or a verdict, and none of them sees an article before it is published.
